I live in Denmark. No, it’s not the capital of Sweden – in fact, it’s a whole country! Maybe you’ve seen us on Oprah? ”Happiest people in the world”, they said… I don’t know if or why we are the happiest, but I know we love fashion and shopping and maybe that has something to do with it!
With just a little over 5 million people, Denmark is one of the smallest countries in Europe. It prides itself on Hans Christian Andersen, Helena Christensen, Lars Ulrich from Metallica…and the great sense of style and Danish design.
Danish style is simple and sophisticated. It’s all about clean lines and ‘less is more’ is very characteristic of the way Danes dress.
What Danish people master is the creativity it takes to mix vintage clothes with designer brands and high end brands like H&M, TopShop, Zara, Mango etc. Quality and design are definitely high priorities when it comes to fashion and most women wear designer shoes, bags, watches and sunglasses, the classic pieces, while trends are being followed in high end brands.
The color palette goes well with the climate. The weather is not the brightest and neither are the colors which mostly stick to the earthy tones. The greys, blacks, browns and blues dominate the wardrobes most of the year making the style elegant and sophisticated.
When it comes to beauty, Danes like it natural. Big hair-do’s and bright eyeshadows are hard to spot, while a little blush, a good mascara and some lipgloss are very popular.
Walking down the streets of Copenhagen, it won’t be hard to spot the latest trends.
