Curvy & Fabulous– Mark Fast Spring RTW 2010

Designer Mark Fast was the talk of the town during the London Fashion Week for Spring 2010. Just like Sonia Rykiel, Fast has taken knitwear to a whole different level, but this year it was not the designs that drew attention.

He used several plus-size models in his Spring RTW runway and shocked so many people including his own staff members. His stylist and creative designer were so outraged and appalled he used an AVERAGE sized woman, they left him completely.

For some fashionistas this is old news, but for me I stand by any designer who stands up for a difference, especially one involving body issues of women. Kudos for Mark, and any other designer who choose to do this, but what about the people who were so mad of the use of these models, who are they to decide that a size zero can look better than a size 14?

Mark Fast’s creative director states “The decision to use fuller girls is something we have been talking about. There’s an idea that only thin and slender women are able to wear Mark’s dresses and he wanted to combat that. We wanted women to know they didn’t have to be a size zero to wear a Mark Fast dress – curvier women can look even better in them.’

Amen to that.

The gorgeous models that were used: Hayley Morley, 21, a size 12, Laura Catterall, 20, a size 14, and Gwyneth Harrison, 25, a size 12-14.
